renginys

The International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage "Lauksnos" is the only continuous event of its kind in Lithuania and Europe, dedicated to presenting the UNESCO-protected examples of the oral and musical culture of intangible cultural heritage, as well as unique folk art.

Representatives of those values included in the lists regulated by the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and national inventories of cultural heritage values are invited to take part in the festival. Since 2019, the festival has already been under the patronage of UNESCO.

The festival will take place from 27-30 June in Klaipėda Old Town, Danė Square. During the four days of the festival, more than 30 intangible cultural heritage sites protected by UNESCO and included in the national inventories of Lithuania and Latvia will be presented. Around 400 participants from 10 countries from all over the world will attend the festival.

The festival will provide an opportunity to get to know these traditions of other countries on the UNESCO list:

  • Kaustinen tradition of fiddling and other related practices (Finland)
  • Traditional Polish dance Polonaise (Poland)
  • Fado tradition (Portugal)
  • Puppet theatre tradition (Czech Republic)
  • Carthusian tradition of polyphonic singing (Saarcartel)
  • Gnaoua tradition (Morocco)
  • Mariachi tradition (Mexico)

During the festival, all Lithuanian UNESCO traditions will be presented: sutartinės, the tradition of the Song Festival, the tradition of cross-cutting, and special attention will be paid to the tradition of thatched gardens, which was included in last year's inventory - during the festival there will be an exhibition, a garden binding workshop, and the festival territory will be decorated with the "Shining Gardens" installation.
