After the whirlwind of summer adventures, the mind and body call for the simplicity of slowing down. Ease into the quieter season of autumn - without the scattered rush - and return to your wholeness with the help of Neringa’s autumnal inspirations.
Every year in Neringa, the majestic gem of sea and sand of the Curonian Spit, September is marked as a month of tourism. To experience the ethereal beauty of this unique peninsula, nestled between a glistening lagoon and the emerald Baltic sea, head to one of the free excursions around its main settlement, Nida. For history fans, the tour “From Nidden to Nida” will provide a deep insight into the past and present of the town (September 2 and 16), or book yourself onto “The Tales of Nida” tour for a treasure trove of nostalgic stories (September 9 and 30).
There is even a sky-high delight on offer for the aviation fanatics at “Aero Nida” festival (September 8-10), which will commemorate the 90th anniversary of Darius and Girėnas flight across the Atlantic Ocean, a landmark in Lithuania’s road to independence. For conscious travellers, there is a sustainability festival “Sveika, Neringa” (September 16), where visitors are giving back and lending a hand in the recovery work of Neringa’s vitally important dune reinforcement structures. The annual tradition of a half marathon (September 30) is inviting visitors to cheer the runners and lace up their own running shoes in this celebration of sports and Neringa’s glorious landscape.
Tickle your playful side with an interactive game “Along the Paths of Neringa’s Heritage”. Throughout September, spot the birdhouse-like stations around Neringa, that hold a riddle to be solved. Once you conquer all five riddles, take a selfie with a hashtag #neringoskulturospaveldokelias2023, and test your luck for souvenir gifts.
Nida’s culture and tourism centre “Agila” presents a fresh take on a pedestrian tour “Top 10 in Nida”. The iconic landmarks are included in this must-do excursion: visitors will climb the legendary Parnidis Dune, the Hill of Urbas, discover the location of Nida’s gliding school and learn the main intricacies of everyday life on the Curonian Spit.
Make sure to tag @curonian_spit_neringa on September 23 for your chance to win Curonian prizes. On this day at the final stop of the tour, Neringa’s guests will be welcomed with a famous local chef Antanas’ speciality plovas. Take time to also enjoy the wide array of Neringa’s museums on the penultimate Saturday of September - they all will be offering free-of charge entrance to all visitors.
It is simple to understand why Neringa has gained a name for itself among the connoisseurs of elevated leisure and quality relaxation. Often, it is the dedication and loving work of Neringa’s many recreational businesses that make that essential difference to the holiday experience of the Curonian Spit of its many loyal visitors and new guests. To mark the International Day of Tourism (September 27), a vote of the most hospitable tourism business of Neringa has been opened. All those willing to show their appreciation and cast their vote can do so until September 25 via www.visitneringa.com.
Celebrate the joy of discovery and the spellbinding uniqueness of the Curonian Spit - this autumn, see you in Neringa.
